Juliana Poole has been an artist for many years, and is a former member of Circle 10 Gallery. She discovered a love for carving wood in a class taught by Alvin Harris in the late 1960’s. She taught wood carving herself at Pamlico Community College and has been active in many shows and art programs in the southeast. Her works also include mixed media and metal. Most recently, a workshop led by sculptor Bob Lockhart introduced her to carving in stone.
Juliana has lived in Oriental more than fifty years. During that time she has been a lab tech, a sailing instructor, and an activities director, but has always come back to carving.
